Pleasant surprise for Kipketer

Running only the second marathon of her career, Kenya's Valentine Kipketer yesterday created a course record in the Mumbai Marathon women's race clocking 2:24:33sec. But surprisingly, she wasn't aware of the achievement.


Asked by this correspondent about how she felt about breaking the course record, Kipketer looked confused, "What, is it me, oh really, I wasn't aware of it.

"Mumbai's weather was good. I know I can do much better in the future. My aim is to finish the race in two hours and 20 minutes," said theu00a020-year-old.

Kipketer said she is happy with her timing, "My timing has improved compared to what I achieved in Hamburg (2:28:03s) last April."u00a0Her timing was 1.39s faster than the course record of 2:26.12s, set last year by Ethiopian Netsanet Abeyo.u00a0Behind Kipketer were Ethiopia's Dinknesh Mekash (2:28:46s) and Aberu Mekuria (2:29:03s).
