World Wrestling Entertainment's show WWE SmackDown Live had Chris Jericho defending his United States championship against former friend Kevin Owens in a Payback rematch as the main event.
Kevin Owens lost his US title to Chris Jericho two days earlier at WWE Payback. Owens then had a rematch at the main event on WWE SmackDown. Knowing each others moves, the friends-turned-foes battled it out in a fierce manner. Kevin Owens went on to defeat Chris Jericho by hitting the pop-up powerbomb to win back the United States championship.
Owens however, did not stop there and began to viciously assault Jericho after the match with the referees trying to stop him. He then lodged Jericho's throat into a steel chair and then hit it on the ring post.
