The last game of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised (MSSA) U-16 Division II match was scheduled to be played between Holy Family (Andheri) and ANZA (Byculla) at the Azad Maidan ground yesterday. However, there was no sight of the Byculla team. Ground officials told mid-day that ANZA coach Sahil Modak's father was seriously ill and his team could not play without a coach. Holy Family (Andheri) got the first walkover of the tournament.
Speaking to mid-day, coach of Holy Family (Andheri), Kingsley Rebello was disappointed that his side could not play. "Our boys were looking forward to flexing their muscles in the middle. Losing out on a game is ultimately a loss for the kids, but the result was good for us. We earned valuable points for our school," Rebello told mid-day.
District-level player from the Andheri side Rohan Chikale and his teammate Sheldon D'Costa were also looking forward to a good game. Holy Family's ex-student Kartik Bhandary said: "I played for Holy Family (Andheri) right up from the under-8 to under-16 in MSSA tournaments and also DSO tournaments. I am coming back to watch my school play after 10 years. I will be going to USA soon and don't know when I would get another opportunity to watch my school play," he said.
