Vonn in hospital with a broken arm immediately after her crash during training in 2016
Can a scar be pretty? USA's top skier Lindsey Vonn sure thinks so. Vonn, 33, suffered a terrible crash while training, 15 months ago, jeopardising her participation in the upcoming Pyeongchang Olympics (February 9-25). She broke her right arm and required a plate be inserted with over a dozen screws. Today, over a year after the major surgery, a large scar remains, which Vonn says she would earlier hide, but now shows off proudly.

"I used to think the huge purple scar along the back of my right arm was hideous. But the harder I worked in rehab, the more I felt like it was a badge of strength. Now, I embrace it and wear sleeveless dresses and tops because the scar is part of who I am," Vonn told America's Shape Magazine.

"The scar has made me stronger and I'm proud to show it off," she added. Vonn's therapist, Lindsay Winninger, said the athletes put in nearly eight hours a day post-surgery to merely move the arm slowly. It's this grit that has won her four World Cup titles and seven world championship medals!
