American skiing star Lindsey Vonn is hurt over the backlash that followed her remarks last week about the US government and President Donald Trump. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Vonn wrote: "My recent comments opened up my eyes as to how divided we are right now. It is hurtful to read comments where people are hoping I break my neck or that God is punishing me for being 'anti-Trump'."

Vonn told CNN she'd be proud to represent USA at February's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang but was not a representative of the US government or Trump. Asked if she would attend a possible White House reception for the US Olympic team after the Games - a tradition - Vonn replied firmly: "Absolutely not."
On Tuesday, Vonn, 33, a World Cup and Olympic gold medalwinner said she was alarmed at the way the US is perceived around the world.
"I'm proud to be an American, and want our country to continue to be a symbol of hope, compassion, inclusion and world unity. My travels around the world have recently made clear that this is no longer how people view the United States of America.
