India have traditionally been among top performers at the Asian Games and the 18th edition of the quadrennial event will be no different, assured Chef de Mission Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The Indian contingent in the Indonesian capital comprises a massive 800-plus group that includes 571 athletes, competing across 36 sports, and over 200 officials and support staff members.
India were unable to match their 2010 Asian Games performance of 65 medals (14 gold, 17 silver, 34 bronze) at the last edition in Incheon, where they bagged 57 medals (11 gold, 9 silver, 37 bronze). However, this time, the number will surely beat last edition's figure, insisted Brij Bhushan.
"Our wrestlers have been working hard. Some have been training under individual coaches abroad and this is the time for them to deliver. I'm sure they will. Names like Sushil Kumar and Bajrang Punia are world beaters," he said.
