Raut creates history in athletics
Kavita Raut yesterday created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual medal in track events of the Commonwealth Games as she bagged the bronze in 10,000m race. Raut clocked 33:05.28s to finish third.
Kalmadi apologises to Ugandan officials
CWG OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi has apologised for an incident that left three Ugandan officials injured at the Commonwealth Games Village, OC Secretary General Lalit Bhanot said yesterday. However, Ugandan High Commissioner Nimisha Madhvani has denied that she has received an apology from the Organising Committee.
Swimmers continue to disappoint
In yet another disappointing show, the Indian swimmers failed to make a mark. Virdhawal Khade failed to reach the final of the men's 50m freestyle. Para-swimmer Sharath Gayakwad (1:04.18) finished fifth in the men's 100m freestyle S8, while his teammate Naveen Kumar (1:25.24) took the last spot. Sandeep Sejwal finished last in the men's 50m breaststroke final yesterday.
Silver for women but men crash out in TT
The Indian women team had to be content with a silver medal after going down 0-3 to top seed Singapore in the final, while their men counterparts lost the semi-final to England to crash out of the Commonwealth Games table tennis competition.
