Team India coach Gary Kirsten has tickled the world of cricket with his document circulated to the Champions Trophy squad which encouraged sex in order to improve performance. "From a psychological (body) perspective having sex increases testosterone levels, which causes an increase in strength, energy, aggression and competitiveness," said an extract in a report published in The Hindustan Times.

Here are some sex-related anecdotes culled out by MiD DAY.

True man, Fred
Cricketers are known to have a good time on tour, but not many admit it. Fred Trueman, the former England fast bowler who died in 2006, admitted in his autobiography Ball of Fire that he enjoyed sex with women while on long tours. In a chapter where Trueman described his relationship with his first wife Enid, the Yorkshireman said that Enid was a smart lady and knew he had the "odd bird" on tour and it was more than flesh and blood could stand to go without sex for several months on tour.

Late & lucky
A Mumbai Cricket Association official was put in charge of Sir Garry Sobers' 1966-67 tourists. The Caribbeans were all set to leave for the Mumbai airport after the first Test at the Brabourne Stadium, but were delayed by one team member a batsman. The official followed the BCCI secretary's orders and made his way to find out more about the delay. When he knocked on the West Indian's door, he was yelled at. "F''' off," the cricketer said. The official beat a hasty retreat only to tell the official. "Sir, he is f'''k''g and he's telling me to f''' off. This is very unfair."

Lloyd shocker
IN May 2008, former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd was accused by his wife Waveney of being a womaniser.

"They call him the gentleman of cricket and he makes out that he's such a principled man but he has been a womaniser throughout our entire married life," Waveney was quoted as saying. She stressed that she always knew that "he was sleeping around" and he "seemed to have a woman for every continent."

Funny appeal
A few Indian cricketers were returning to the Hilton Hotel after winning the 1985 World Championship of Cricket in Melbourne. Since the hotel is nearby, they decided to walk through the Fitzroy Gardens where they were confronted by a couple of sex workers. They asked the players if they wanted to spice up their night. When one of them mischievously asked what would it cost, he was shocked by the price. "Any discount? You see, we are achievers. We just beat Pakistan at cricket," he said. Neither party gave in.

Bed & Botham
Ian Botham was the adventurous type but a lot of lies got written about him. One of them was his sex romp with beauty queen Lindy Field on the 1985-86 tour of the West Indies. The media reported that the all-rounder and Field had broken the hotel bed through their sex exploits. Botham had nothing to do with Field and the broken bed. Botham's teammate Les Taylor had broken it in his quest to get some sleep.

Football first
When Brazil won the 2002 World Cup, star player Ronaldo was asked: "What is more rewarding winning the World Cup or having sex after going without it for 40 days?"

Ronaldo thought about it amidst much amusement among the press corps and replied: "Winning the World Cup is more rewarding. I will have sex in a few moments, but the World Cup only happens every four years."
