Paris: Japan's Kamui Kobayashi was confirmed as a Caterham driver for next weekend's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as the cash-strapped backmarkers return to Formula One after sitting out two races.
The second driver to race alongside Kobayashi will be announced this week after Marcus Ericsson left the team to drive for Sauber next season.
"I am happy to be racing with the team in Abu Dhabi. It hasn't been an easy last few weeks, so it will be nice to be back to in the car and work together with the Caterham F1 team members," said Kobayashi, who has raced 15 times this season. Caterham were forced to skip the United States and Brazil rounds of the world championship after going into administration.
Their return in time for the Abu Dhabi finale was largely made possible by public donations. "I would like to thank the fans for supporting the team like they have. This team is working hard and never gives up," added the 28-year-old Kobayashi.
