Don Bosco 'A' down St Stanislaus 'A' via sudden death to clinch MSSA U-14 title

Avenge last year’s loss to in their own backyard


Don Bosco 'A' (Matunga) exacted sweet revenge over St Stanislaus 'A' (Bandra) after they registered a 5-4 win via tie-breaker to clinch the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) St Andrew's Challenge Shield league-cum-knockout boys U-14 inter-school hockey title at St Stanislaus High School ground in Bandra on Saturday.

The Bosco boys finished runners up last year when the two teams met in the final and were keen to settle scores.

Don Bosco coach, Javed Sayed was pleased to avenge their previous loss. "Last year, Stanislaus beat us after a long time. So, it was kind of a sweet revenge for us," said Sayed.

Tense finish
The match went into the tie-breaker after both teams were locked 0-0 at the end of regulation time.

In the tie-breaker, Krish Jain and Kris Benson scored for the Matunga school, while Preet Parmar, Nathan Murzello and Reon Lobo fluffed their chances.

For St Stanislaus, Saurabh Mayekar and Keegan Pinto scored even as Josiah Noronha, Calvin D'Souza and Noah D'Mello missed, taking the tie into sudden death with both teams tied at 2-2. In the sudden death, Krish, Preet and Kris scored for Don Bosco, while Saurabh and Josiah scored, Keegan missed out to hand Matunga side the win.

Earlier, in the boys' third-place match, Don Bosco 'B' beat St Lawrence (Borivli) 4-1, while Mary Immaculate Girls (Borivli) won 3-0 against Mount Mary Convent (Bandra).

In the Fr Donnelly Challenge Cup girls U-14 tourney, St Joseph (Bandra) beat St Elias (Khar) 1-0 via tie-breaker to win the title.
