Caroline Wozniacki says she never gave up on herself or her Grand Slam title dream after beating Elise Mertens yesterday to reach her first Australian Open final. The Danish World No. 1 two overcame a late wobble in her semi-final to beat the Mertens 6-3, 7-6 (7/2) and set up a clash against Romania's Simona Halep.
"It means so much to me," she said after reaching her third major final. "I always believed in myself. I had a tough period where I had a few injuries. That was mentally tough. But once I got past that, I knew that if I worked hard, my game is good enough for it. "If you don't feel like you can go all the way in tournaments, then there's no sense in playing. I want to be the best and that's why I'm still playing."
