Manchester United said Marcus Rashford had ‘taken responsibility for his actions' after he was reportedly seen in a Belfast night spot last week and later reported ill.

The club confirmed on Monday that it dealt with a ‘disciplinary matter' regarding the England striker. Rashford was left out of his team's 4-2 win over Newport in the FA Cup on Sunday, with United saying he was too ill to take part.

Later, manager Erik ten Hag said he would deal with the forward following his reported activities in the week leading up to the match. "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed," United said on Monday.

Man Utd to face Wolves

Rashford will be available for selection when United plays Wolves in the English Premier League on Thursday.

According to British tabloids, Rashford arrived in Belfast last Wednesday on a private jet from Manchester and checked into a GBP 1500-a-night suite at the five-star Fitzwilliam Hotel. He was in the city to visit Larne FC, where his friend Ro-Shaun Williams had just signed up.

Reports claimed Rashford, who reportedly earns GBP375,000-a-week, was on a two-day drinking spree where he downed shots of tequila and cocktails before collapsing on his hotel bed fully clothed just before 3am on Friday.

He then boarded a 7am private jet back to Manchester on Friday where he landed an hour later, but called in sick for training.

‘Weird night out'

A waitress, Sarah Adair, who allegedly served Rashford lunch at a restaurant before he invited her to a night party in the Irish city, told The Sun that the footballer was "clearly on a mission to get drunk."

Adair said that the "weird night out" ended in the early hours of Friday morning with her having to tuck him in as he fell into his bed full clothed.
