- Alejandro âPapu' Gomez is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His nickname was coined by his mother, who affectionately referred to him as 'Papuchito' when he was a child.
- He was coached by current Atletico de Madrid boss Diego Pablo Simeone at Club Atletico San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina and at Calcio Catania in Italy.
