Five interesting facts you may not know about Levante UD's Jorge de Frutos

Jorge de Frutos is one of the breakout stars of this season. The young Levante UD midfielder's story is an example of perseverance in pursuit of the dream of playing in LaLiga Santander. Here are some curious facts about this promising talent!

1. Jorge de Frutos' case is an unusual one as he didn't start playing in a football team until he was 16 years of age, starting at the cadete level. His first registration with the federation was with Sepúlveda in Segovia, just two years before the player and his father made a trip to Madrid. After various trials with teams in the capital, Rayo Majadahonda offered him a space in their juvenil side.

2. He is the player who comes from the smallest municipality of all those competing in LaLiga Santander this season. De Frutos is from Navares de Enmedio, a town in Segovia with no more than a hundred neighbours.

3. Given that the closest sports shop to De Frutos' town was one hour away and given that his family couldn't go with him because of their work on the fields seven days a week, an aunt who lived in Madrid had to buy the player's first football boots. His first touches of a football were against the pediment of the back of the town's church.

4. In the 2017/18 season, he was one of the standout players in Rayo Majadahonda's historic promotion into LaLiga SmartBank, which earned him a call from Real Madrid Castilla. After a season with Los Blancos' B team, he went out on loan with Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano, later joining his current club Levante UD.

5. In the current LaLiga Santander campaign, De Frutos is performing well and has become a starter in Paco López's team. The young midfielder is the Levante UD player who has provided the most assists this season, with seven in total. He has also scored a goal on four occasions.
