Goalkeeper Viraj Tungare dished out an impressive performance and made some superb saves to ensure his citadel stayed intact. But, a slight slip-up towards the fag end of the match resulted in his school, Parle Tilak ICSE (Vile Parle) conceding a soft goal and go down fighting 0-1 to Lakshadham School (Goregaon) in the boys' U-16 Div-III-F League match of the MSSA inter-schools football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.
An agile and alert Viraj, who turns 14 in October, showed fine anticipation and was not hesitant to rush out to thwart the rival attackers. He was also good in the air and made a series of saves, especially in the first half to foil attempts from Lakshadham strikers Sharvan Patwari, Shivanand Mahajan, Omm Mohapatra and Rishikesh Pandit.

However, a misunderstanding between him and defender Sumit Samant proved costly as Lakshadham scored the winner in the 47th minute. After conceding a free-kick just outside the box, defender Sumit instructed Viraj to come off his line and Lakshadham's free-kick specialist Suyash Sapre sensed the opportunity and scored with a measured chip over the advanced goalkeeper. Viraj made a valiant attempt by lunging backwards but could only get his fingertips to the ball as it dipped into the back of the net. Earlier in the day, Jonathan Mannila struck in the 31st minute to help Bombay Scottish (Powai) snatch a 1-0 win over St Francis D'Assisi (Borivli) in Div-III-E match.
