Former England football star Steven Gerrard has been criticised online for a 'sexist' comment about his daughters on social media.

Gerrard (37) posted this picture on Instagram of his three daughters - Lilly-Ella (13), Lexie (11) and Lourdes (5) playing with their infant brother Lio. He captioned the post: "Looks like his ironing and washing is sorted when he gets older."

The statement didn't go down well with his followers, one of whom shot back: "@stevengerrard I'm an LFC fan & I'm disappointed with this sexist post."

Another follower wrote: "Mad love for you and all, can't say I can condone my favourite football player to say such things. We know it's a joke, but it's also kinda s'''ty. Please understand that your mentality directly affects your children's, surely you don't want the girls growing up to think they exist to serve men."
