Madrid: German international midfielder Sami Khedira is set for three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury he suffered in Real Madrid's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
"After tests carried out by the Real Madrid medical team, an injury in his left hamstring has been diagnosed," the club said on Monday. Khedira was substituted at half-time at the weekend and adds to Madrid's growing injury list which already includes midfielders James Rodriguez and Luka Modric and the central defensive pair of Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
The former Stuttgart man is expected to miss upcoming league games against Deportivo la Coruna, Elche and Villarreal, as well as a return to his homeland when the holders face Schalke in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie later this month.
Khedira has had an injury disrupted 18 months with the European champions after suffering a cruciate ligament injury whilst on international duty with Germany in November 2013.
The 27-year-old has made just 16 appearances in all competitions this season and is reportedly set to leave the club at the end of the season after failing to agree an extension to his contract which expires at the end of the campaign.
