The Western Indian Football Association (WIFA) has imposed sanctions on TDFA (Thane District Football Association) and on eight women players for their irregularities, including improper conduct by five of the players during the Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Women's Football Championship.

TDFA were fined R2 lakhs for fielding eight players not registered with the association. The TDFA has also been issued a showcause notice asking them to explain as to why no further action should be taken against them.

The five players have been banned for five years after it was reported that they resorted to violent behaviour and prevented the organisers from conducting the match between Nagpur and Dhule at the Karnatak SA ground on May 2 and also for assaulting the official photographer.

The other three players, all registered with districts, other than TDFA, who played for Thane District, have been banned for a period of one year.
