2009: Liverpool Hero Owen Saves United

Given his past brilliance for Liverpool, Michael Owen seemed an unlikely fit for United when he arrived at Old Trafford in 2009. His three years at United were largely frustrating and dogged by injuries, but he etched his name into club folklore with a dramatic injury-time winner against City. Craig Bellamy looked to have snatched a 3-3 draw but Owen had the final say when he struck deep into stoppage time.

2011: Rooney's Bicycle Strike

Wayne Rooney scored with a stunning bicycle kick winner at Old Trafford. The score was 1-1 when the striker, with his back to goal about 10 yards out, leapt to meet a cross and hooked it into the net.

2011: why Always Mario Balotelli?

The morning of the 2011-12 derby at Old Trafford began with Mario Balotelli's house catching fire, caused by fireworks being set off in his bathroom. He then scored twice in a remarkable 6-1 City win, lifting his shirt after his first goal to reveal a T shirt bearing the words ‘Why Always Me?'.

2012: Title Swings Man City's Way

The second derby of the 2011-12 season was pivotal in the title race that season. With just three games remaining, Manchester City trailed leaders United by three points. Up stepped captain Vincent Kompany to head City to a vital 1-0 win amid high tension at the Etihad Stadium. It gave City the initiative and they went on to win the title on goal difference.

2012: Van Persie Adds Late Drama

United regained the title from City in 2012-13, and in the final reckoning their last-gasp win at Eastlands in December proved decisive. City had battled back from 2-0 down to secure what seemed like a draw with four minutes remaining. But striker Robin van Persie had the final say, firing a deflected free-kick through a flimsy wall to snatch victory.
