Left back Aaron Martin has joined Mainz from RCD Espanyol on loan, both football clubs said on Tuesday. With the transfer, Mainz bolster their defence for the upcoming season as Espanyol's Aaron Martin has agreed to a season long loan deal until June 2019. The loan deal contains an option to make the deal permanent, reports Xinhua news agency.
"Aaron Martin is a very experienced player despite his young age. At the age of just 21 he already made more than 60 games in Spain's top flight," Mainz' sporting director Rouven Schroeder said.
The Spain youth player wore Espanyol's jersey since 2015 and made 62 appearances ever since. "I am pleased that I can play for Mainz in the Bundesliga in the future. They have trust in me and made great efforts to sign me. I would like to repay this trust to the club and its fans with a lot of passion on the pitch," Martin said. Mainz will clash with Stuttgart to kick off their Bundesliga campaign on August 26.
