Rohit Sharma shines in ongoing India vs West Indies Test series: 5 milestones achieved by the skipper

In the ongoing India vs West Indies Test series, India have been putting up an indomitable performance with skipper Rohit Sharma leading from the front. He smashed a crucial century in the first Test and made an equally significant contribution in the second Test with scores of 80 and 57 in the first and second innings of the second Test respectively. The skipper surpassed the 3500-run mark in Test cricket in the first Test against West Indies. He went on to score 103 runs in the innings. Rohit Sharma now has 3677 runs in the longest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma (103), along with Yashasvi Jaiswal (171), registered India’s highest opening partnership in Test cricket against West Indies in the Caribbean. The duo put up a strong 229-run stand in the first Test, surpassing Wasim Jaffer and Virender Sehwag’s previous best stand of 159 runs. The opening duo broke another record as they pulled off the fastest 50-run opening partnership for India in Tests during the second Test (50 runs in 5.3 overs).

Rohit Sharma also recorded the fastest fifty of his Test career off 35 deliveries in the second innings of the second Test.

He also surpassed MS Dhoni to become the fifth highest run-scorer for India in international cricket. He now has 17,355 international runs and is behind Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Virat Kohli (25,484), Rahul Dravid (24,064) and Sourav Ganguly (18,433).

Rohit Sharma also recorded his 30th successive double-digit score in Test cricket, breaking Mahela Jayawardene’s previous record of 29 back-to-back double-digit scores.
