In ODI World Cup 2023, match number 39 of 48 between Australia and Afghanistan, batting first the "Afghans" posted a target of 291 runs for the loss of five wickets at the iconic Wankhede Stadium
Riding high on Ibrahim Zadran's unbeaten 129 run-knock, Afghanistan were able to reach a respectable total. His knock came in 143 deliveries which saw him smash 8 fours and 3 sixes
In the run chase, the Aussies kept losing their wickets at regular intervals and that's when Glenn Maxwell dropped the greatest-ever knock in the format's history
Battling with severe cramps, the star all-rounder showcased a gritty character while chasing the target
His body cramps were hurting so bad that the all-rounder was almost done and wanted to retire during the match against Afghanistan. But Australia's physiotherapist Nick Jones, an unknown hero behind Maxwell's glorious knock, "Look, I think your best bet is to get you up off the ground. 'You're lying down, other things are going to cramp, we need you up on your feet, we need to stretch the key muscle groups that are going", told to Maxwell
Listening to the physio's suggestion, from there on Glenn Maxwell played an unbeaten knock of 201 runs off just 128 deliveries. From not being able to take a proper stance to playing the greatest knock in the format's history, what Wankhede stadium witnessed that day was something out of the world from Australia's so-called "Big Show"
Alongside him was another man who stood steady with the hopes held high. Australia's skipper Pat Cummins shouldered his fellow teammate. Facing 68 balls, the pacer accumulated just 12 runs which was laced with 1 four. The "Men in Yellow" eventually won the match by three wickets
