In the second Test match against Sri Lanka, England star batsman Joe Root slammed 103 runs in the second innings of the match. With this, the right-hander scripted history by becoming the player to hold the record for the most Test centuries in the country's history
In the first innings of the same match, Root played a knock of 143 runs which ended in 206 deliveries. Later, he scored 103 runs in the second essay. The 33-year-old now has 34 centuries in his illustrious Test career
Sir Alastair Cook comes second on the list of the most Test centuries for England. In 161 matches, Cook registered 33 tons including 26,562 runs while representing England
The third place is in the name of Kevin Pietersen who featured in 104 Test matches for England. In his decorated Test career, the former right-hander smashed 23 centuries which saw him hit 13,255 runs for the "Three Lions"
Walter Reginald Hammond played 85 Test matches for England in which he scored 22 tons. Hammond's Test career included 7,249 runs with a best score of an unbeaten 336 runs
Representing the country in 108 Tests, Michael Colin Cowdrey has 22 centuries to his name. His personal best score is of unbeaten 246 runs and Cowdrey ended his longest format career with 7,624 run
