Kapil Dev was the first Indian captain to win a World Cup for India. He led the team in the year 1983 in which team India defeated the mighty West Indies team to lift the cup. Kapil Dev scored 175 runs against Africa which was a world record at that time. His knock helped India in their World Cup campaign

Mohammad Azharuddin was captain of the Indian team in the years 1992, 1996 and 1999. His highest World Cup score was 93 runs. He showed the world the calm way to lead the team. Under Azharuddin's captaincy India reached the 1996 World Cup's semi-final
