He played a knock of 203 runs in 430 deliveries. During his knock, he bashed the English bowlers for 23 fours and 2 sixes. With this, Pataudi became the first ever Indian captain to score a double century in the longest format of the game

In a 2013 test match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 224 runs against Australia in the first innings. During his knock, he registered 24 fours and 6 sixes. With this, he became the fourth Indian captain to score a double century in test cricket
