ICC World Cup 2011 final: India vs Sri Lanka

The famous "Dhoni finishes off in style... India lifts the World Cup after 28 years" match was played at Wankhede Stadium. In the 2011 World Cup final, India clashed with Sri Lanka at this stadium. Having won the toss, the Sangakkara-led Lanka set a gigantic target of 275 for the "Men in Blue" to chase down. During the run-chase, India lost the early wicket of star opener Virender Sehwag for a duck. Even, "Master Blaster" Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for 18 runs and the whole Wankhede Stadium was silenced by Lasith Malinga's single delivery. A semi-final clash of the ICC World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium witnessed Virat Kohli scripting history. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first against the Kiwis. Skipper Rohit departed after giving an elevated start to the team whereas Shubman Gill retired hurt after scoring 79 runs. India's stalwart batsman Virat Kohli smashed a record-breaking century against New Zealand. Bowing down to his childhood hero Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli celebrated his century in Tendulkar's home ground. Thereafter, India set a target of 397 runs. New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell displayed his very best to guide his team to the semi-final win but was later dismissed by Mohammed Shami. That day, India's star pacer Shami bagged seven wickets and helped the "Men in Blue" to secure a win against New Zealand 

ICC World Cup 2023: Australia vs Afghanistan

Match number 39 of the marquee event between Australia and Afghanistan took place at Wankhede Stadium. Afghanistan batting first in the match set a target of 292 runs against Australia. While chasing the target Aussies kept losing wickets in a quick session. Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell entered the ground. Battling with cramps and injuries, Maxwell scripted history by smashing an unbeaten 201 runs against the Afghans. That day, the all-rounder registered 21 fours and 10 sixes to his name. Australia won the match by three wickets

ICC World Cup 2023: India vs Sri Lanka

Match number 33 of the ICC World Cup 2023 between India and Sri Lanka was held at Wankhede Stadium. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match. The "Men in Blue" batters displayed extraordinary strokes. Shubman Gill smashed 92 runs, accompanying him was Virat Kohli who scored 88 runs. Number four batsman Shreyas Iyer registered 82 runs before getting caught in the hands of Maheesh Theekshana. Sri Lanka needed to chase a score of 357 runs. After the Indian batters' show with the willow, even the bowlers did not take a step back. Mohammed Siraj bagged three wickets and Mohammed Shami registered five wickets under his name. None of the Lankan batters were able to score huge runs and were bowled out for just 55 runs. India registered a dominant win over Sri Lanka by 302 runs

ICC World Cup 2023: South Africa vs Bangladesh

South Africa's stand-in captain Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bat first. Proteas' opening batsman Quinton de Kock who made his last appearance in the ODI World Cup showcased his batting skills by smashing stupendous 174 runs. Followed by skipper Markram who scored 60 runs and Heinrich Klaasen gave the finishing touches and scored 90 runs in just 49 balls. Bangladesh needed to chase a target of 383 runs. Except for Mahmudullah, none of the Bengal Tigers' batsmen scored runs. Mahmudullah's century went in vain as South Africa won the match by 149 runs
