England won the toss and opted to field first against Australia at Old Trafford. Opener Usman Khawaja got dismissed early in the game by Stuart Broad while David Warner(42) shared a second-wicket stand of 46 with Marnus Labuschagne(51) before being dismissed by Chris Woakes. Broad took out Travis Head, thus completing 600 Test wickets. Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh smashed half-centuries as Woakes took 5 wickets in the innings. Australia were bowled out at 317.
