Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century on Test debut becoming the 17th Indian batter to achieve this feat, joining the likes of Lala Amarnath, Gundappa Vishwanath, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and other legendary players.

Jaiswal became the first Indian opener to score a century on Test debut in an overseas venue and the third overall – the other two openers being Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.

Remaining just 29 runs short of a double century at 171, Jaiswal is now the highest-scoring Indian batter on Test debut away from home. He surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record of 131 runs against England at Lord’s.

He now holds the record of most balls faced (387) by an Indian on Test debut. He surpassed Mohammed Azharuddin’s record of 322 deliveries.

Jaiswal, along with captain Rohit Sharma, recorded the highest opening partnership for India against West Indies. The two openers set up a mammoth partnership of 229 runs to give India a strong lead.
