England's captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to field first against South Africa. Aiden Markram is named as the stand-by captain for the Proteas as Temba Bavuma is ruled out of the match due to illness. Reeza Hendricks is the replacement player added to the squad in place of Bavuma

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the inning. South Africa lost the early wicket of opener de Kock. Reece Topley bowled an exceptional ball which helped England get the wicket of the opener

With the dismissal of de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen entered the field to bat at no. 3. Further, Dussen and Hendricks together smashed a partnership of 121 runs. Dussen departed for 60 runs before falling into the hands of Jonny Bairstow and Hendricks went on to score 85 runs before getting bowled by Adil Rashid. He registered two important wickets under his name for 61 runs

Later, Heinrich Klaasen took over the control of South Africa's batting. He played impressive strokes and went on to score 109 runs in just 67 balls. Accompanying him was the Proteas speed gun Marco Jansen who scored blazing 75 runs in just 42 deliveries

The duo helped the Proteas to set a target of 400 runs against the five times world champions England
