Former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir celebrates his birthday today. An outspoken player, Gambhir has earned respect of his teammates and opponents during his cricket years. Born October 14, 1981, Gautam Gambhir is a former Indian cricketer, who played ODIs, T20Is and Tests for India.

Gautam Gambhir is a former left-handed opening batsman who played domestic cricket for Delhi and captained Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Gautam Gambhir was born in New Delhi to Deepak Gambhir, who manages a textiles business, and Seema Gambhir, a housewife. Gambhir has a sister, Ekta, who is two years younger to him.

Gautam Gambhir was apparently adopted by his grandparents just eighteen days after he was born and lived with them ever since.

Gautam Gambhir started playing cricket at the age of 10. He completed his schooling from Modern School, New Delhi and went on to graduate from Hindu College, University of Delhi.

In October 2011, Gautam Gambhir got married to his ladylove Natasha Jain, who hails from prominent business family. He currently resides in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi.

Gautam Gambhir and Natasha Jan welcomed their first daughter Aazeen, born 2014, and their second daughter Anaiza, born, June 2017.

Gautam Gambhir played 58 Tests scoring 4,154 runs at an average of 41.95 and a top score of 206.

Gautam Gambhir was the only Indian cricketer and among 4 internatinoal cricketers to score centuries in five consecutive Tests.

Gambhir has played 147 ODIs scoring 5,238 runs at an average of 39.68 and a top score of 150*.

Gautam Gambhir captained the Indian cricket team in six ODIs form 2010-2011 wherein the team won all their matches.

Gautam Gambhir is the eighth-highest run-getter for India in T20I cricket. He has scored 932 runs from 37 matches at an average of 27.41. Gambhir scored 7 fifties in T20Is.

Gautam Gambhir played a viral role in Indian clinching both the World T20 title in 2007 where he scored 75 runs from 54 balls in the final against Pakistan and the Cricket World Cup in 2011 where he posted 97 runs from 122 deliveries in the final against Sri Lanka.

Gautam Gambhir made a comeback to cricket in 2016 after a huge absence from the game.

On 3rd December 2018, Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Gautam Gambhir made his foray into politics when he joined the BJP at the 2019 Elections.
