Sri Lanka's legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara enjoys the top spot in the list. Back in the year 2013, the veteran had scored 2.868 runs in just 48 matches played across all formats. He had centuries and 18 half-centuries. His highest score was 319 runs which came against Bangladesh including 32 fours and 8 sixes
Ricky Ponting
Australia's former skipper Ricky Ponting is the second on the list and had 2,833 runs in the year 2005, across all formats. He had nine centuries and 15 half-centuries registered to his name. He smashed 207 runs against Pakistan in a test match and was his highest score that year
Virat Kohli
In the year 2017, India's 'Run Machine' Virat Kohli scored 2,818 runs including 11 centuries and and 10 half-centuries. In that year, his highest score of 243 runs came against Sri Lanka in a test match played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi

The fourth place in the list is again in the name of Virat Kohli for his excellent display of batting in the year 2018. Kohli again registered 11 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his name. His knock of 160 runs came against South Africa and was his highest score in 2018
Kane Williamson
New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson is the fifth place holder in the list of batters with the most runs in a calendar year. Williamson registered 2,692 runs in the year 2015 including eight tons and 14 half-centuries. His highest score in that year was 242 runs which he scored against Sri Lanka in a test match played at Basin Reserve in Wellington
