These batsmen hit historic triple centuries in Tests

On this day back in 2003, former cricket Matthew Hayden scored a record 380 against Zimbabwe at Perth. It was a record highest Test score of that time. We give you a list of cricketers who have scored epic triple centuries over the years

Matthew Hayden (Australia): The Australian announced his arrival when he broke Brian Lara's 9-year-old record after he scored 380 runs in a match against Zimbabwe on 9th October 2003. (Pic/ AFP)

Brian Lara (West Indies): The left-handed iconic batsman has the distinction of scoring two triple centuries. He broke Sobers' 36-year old record in 1994 during a Test against England on 16 April when he scored 375 runs. Lara is the only cricketer to score a quadruple century, when he scored 400 runs, 10 years later against the same team and at the same venue. His record score of 400 is still the highest individual score in a Test match. (Pic/ AFP)

Virender Sehwag (India): Sehwag went down in history when he became the first and only Indian to score a triple century in a Test during the match against Pakistan on 29 March 2004 at Multan. He scored 309. He is also among the four cricketers to score triple centuries on two occasions. He scored 319 runs against South Africa, 4 years later. (Pic/ Suresh K.K.)

Donald Bradman (Australia): 'The Don' was the second cricketer to score a triple ton and overtook Sandham by posting the highest score at the time in his match against England three months later in July 1930. He scored 334 runs. He was also the first cricketer to score two triple centuries in cricket, the second one being 304 runs. Chris Gayle (West Indies): The hard-hitting Gayle was yet another Windies batsman to score a triple ton in Tests when he posted 317 against South Africa on 29th April 2005. He scored another triple ton (333) against Sri Lanka 5 years later. He is among the only four cricketers to score two triple centuries in Tests - the others being Don Bradman, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag. (Pic/ AFP)

Sir Garfield Sobers (West Indies): Garry Sobers became the first West Indian player to score a triple century in Tests. He also went on to break Don Bradman's score to set his own record for the highest Test score posting 365 runs in the match against Pakistan on 26 Feb 1958. (Pic/ Midday archives)

Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka): Sangakkara is another batsman to score a triple century when he posted 319 runs against Bangladesh on 5 Feb 2014. Fellow cricketers Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene have also achieved the feat of scoring 300 runs. (Pic/ AFP)

Brendon McCullum (New Zealand): New Zealand's trailblazing skipper McCullum is the only Kiwi batsman to score a triple century in Test cricket. He did so in the match against India on 18 Feb 2014. He scored 302 runs. He is also the most recent cricketer to score a triple hundred. (Pic/ AFP)

Hashim Amla (South Africa): Amla became the first South African cricketer to score a triple hundred when he did so in the match against England on 19 July 2012. He scored an unbeaten 311 runs. (Pic/ AFP)

Hanif Mohammad (Pakistan): Hanif was the first Asian and Pakistan cricketer to score a triple hundred in a Test during the match against West Indies on 17 January 1958. He scored 337 runs. Fellow cricketers Inzamam Ul Haq and Younis Khan also went on to score triple centuries later. (Pic/ AFP)

Len Hutton (England): English batsman Len Hutton had the distinction of not only scoring a triple century but also breaking Bradman's highest score as he posted 364 in the match against Australia on 20th August 1938.
