Defending champions Parsee Gymkhana beat Payyade Sports Club by 87 runs to lift the Padmakar Talim Shield T20 tournament at MIG Cricket Club in Bandra on Saturday.

Put in to bat, Parsee Gym posted a mammoth 204-6 in their allotted 20 overs thanks mainly to Sachin Yadav's 55 off 32 balls (8x4, 2x6), all-rounder Parag Khanapurkar (18-ball 39 not out, 1x4, 4x6) and wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare (15-ball 33, 4x4, 2x6). Pacer Badre Alam claimed two wickets for Payyade SC.

In reply, Payyade were bundled out for a meagre 117 in 16.2 overs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (12-ball 9) and one-drop Sarfaraz Khan (5-ball 5), who represented Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings respectively in the recent Indian Premier League, were dismissed early by pacer Manish Rao (3-14).

Payyade skipper Siddhesh Lad (55 off 37 balls, 5x4, 3x6) fought hard, but the 205-run target was too tall to achieve.

Leg-spinner Khanapurkar took three for 20, while pacer Tushar Deshpande and left-arm spinner Yash Dicholkar picked up two wickets each.

The Padmakar Talim Shield is the world's oldest limited overs tournament, initiated in 1948.

The Mumbai Cricket Association and organisers MIG CC decided to shift the 45-overs-a-side tournament to the T20 format in 2018-19.

This edition served as a good opportunity for the city's cricketers to impress MCA's selectors ahead of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy beginning in Guwahati on November 4.
