Vidarbha stunned fancied Maharashtra by seven wickets in the first pre-quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy here on Tuesday to enter the Last-8 stage of the national T20 championship.
Opting to field, Vidarbha restricted Maharashtra to 157-8 despite a brisk 45-ball 66 by Rahul Tripathi. Then they rode on half centuries by opener Atharva Taide (56 off 38 balls) and skipper Akshay Wadkar (58 not out off 47 balls) to chase down the target with 13 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, Karnataka defeated Saurashtra by two wickets. Electing to bat first, Saurashtra were restricted to 145-7 with Sheldon Jackson scoring 50. Karnataka chased down the target with a ball to spare. Abhinav Manohar scored an unbeaten 70.
In the third pre-quarterfinal, Kerala beat Himachal by eight wickets after half-centuries by Mohammed Azharuddeen and Sanju Samson.
