Mumbai's club cricketers can finally look forward to some action in the COVID-hit season. The governing council of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Friday met to discuss the plans for conducting the T20 Mumbai League. The committee comprising chairperson Milind Narvekar and Suraj Samat have marked June 1-13 to host the third edition of the tournament.

It is understood that the MCA will now write to the BCCI, requesting for permission to conduct the tournament. There were plans to increase the teams from eight to 10 but all other modalities will be worked out later, sources in the MCA told mid-day.

"As of now, the priority is to hold the league. We could not hold the tournament last season because of the pandemic. If the tournament happens, our local cricketers can look forward to earning some money," the source said.

Meanwhile, the MCA Apex Council on Thursday finally appointed an Ethics Officer, former Bombay High Court judge AY Sakhare. The elected committee had come to power in October 2019. However, the appointment of the Ombudsman is expected to happen in a couple of weeks.
