Parsee Gymkhana centurions Vikrant Auti (left) and Aakarshit Gomel
In a one-sided semi-final, Parsee Gymkhana outclassed Cricket Club of India (CCI) by 166 runs in the 45-overs-a-side Madhav Mantri Centenary One-Day tournament at the MCA-BKC ground on Sunday.
The Marine Drive club owe their Sunday success to Vikrant Auti and Aakarshit Gomel. Auti slammed an 80-ball 109 while Aakarshit Gomel's patient, unbeaten 120 helped dominate CCI.
Batting first, Auti and Gomel put on a 177-run opening stand with left-hander Auti batting aggressively to reach his hundred off 74 balls with a straight six over left-arm spinner Alpesh Ramjani's head. Auti's innings was laced with 14 fours and three sixes. His innings came to an end when he tried to hit pacer Prathmesh Dake (4-49) over long-off, where Ramjani caught him near the boundary ropes.

Gomel, who was on 45 when Auti reached the three-figure mark, decided to accelerate the scoring by hitting 13 fours and two sixes during his 105-ball stay at the crease. Bowling all-rounder Shams Mulani (29-ball 70, 10x4, 3x6) and wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare (56 off 27, 8x4, 1x6) capitalised on the good start to post a mammoth 435-6 in 44 overs. Parsee Gym also benefited from 29 runs because CCI bowled one over short in the over-rate regulation. CCI also conceded 21 extras.
In reply, CCI managed just 269-6 in the allotted 45 overs. Akash Anand's unbeaten 106 off 90 balls (10x4, 1x6), Nishad Gabhawala (63, 8x4) and Dake's 55 not out (7x4, 1x6) went in vain. Left-arm spinner Yash Dicholkar and leg-spinner Parag Khanapurkar claimed two wickets apiece for Parsee Gym.
In the other semi-final held at the Brabourne Stadium, Karnatak Sporting Association thrashed Police Gymkhana by eight wickets. Opting to field, Karnatak SA left-arm spinners Vinayak Bhoir (4-29) and Ankeet Chavan (2-32) did most of the damage as the policemen were bundled out for 191 in 38.3 overs. Swapnil Kulaye scored 59 (8x4) for the losing side.
Karnatak SA opener Amey Soman (66 off 41 balls, 11x4, 1x6) and Shivam Dube (29-ball 68 not out, 7x4, 4x6) completed the formalities in a mere 22.1 overs.
The Parsee Gym v Karnatak SA final will be held at the MCA-BKC ground under lights on Wednesday.
