The Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) vice-president Amol Kale has requested the association's president Dr Vijay Patil to postpone all upcoming tournaments, including the Dr HD Kanga knockouts, in light of the increasing COVID-19 cases in the city. The Kanga knockout tournament is scheduled to start on April 4.

"I have requested the postponement of all tournaments for the time being," Kale told mid-day on Monday.

MCA has divided 137 club teams into four groups for the Kanga knockouts. It is learnt that some of MCA's Apex Council members also endorse Kale's concerns and that the association will take a decision on this in the next couple of days.

"The pandemic is taking a turn for the worse, its behaviour is unpredictable and risky too. At MCA, the safety of our boys should be the prime focus and the most important factor for us," Kale wrote in his letter dated March 27.

Kale also has a message for the parents of different age-group players, who are permitting their kids to participate in private tournaments currently. "We [MCA] have no control on private tournaments but can only appeal to parents that they must be sensible about this situation because no player's career will be affected if the boy/girl does not play for the next four to six months. Players should focus on keeping themselves fit to ensure longevity," added Kale.
