The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, Brendan Taylor, who has had a smashing tournament this far with scores of 40 (vs South Africa), 47 (vs UAE), 37 (vs West Indies), 50 (vs Pakistan) and 121 (vs Ireland), will be playing his last match for his country today, having signed a three-year Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire county, which entitles him to be treated as a local English player and give up playing for his country.
The Harare-born Taylor, who will lead Zimbabwe today, said he was sad to leave, but the decision was taken based on its financial merit more than anything else. "It hasn't been an easy decision to make.
International cricket has always been the pinnacle for me, but this (move) is something I discussed with my family and my wife, and after two, three months (of discussion), I've decided to go and play in England. When you've got kids at home, you want to try and make sure they've got the best upbringing you can give them. That favoured the decision," Taylor said at a press conference yesterday.
Looking back at his career, Taylor said it's been a very satisfying 11 years of national duty. "It's been a fairly enjoyable time that I'm extremely grateful for," he said.
