Star Indian all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur, who has been offered Deputy Superintendent of Police's (DSP) position in Punjab Police, has said that it was her childhood dream to work with the state police.
Harmanpreet played a crucial role in India reaching the final of the ICC Women's World Cup in England, where they lost to hosts by nine runs. Her hurricane knock of 171 against Australia in the semifinals was the highlight of her contribution.
The star woman cricketer, who met Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh on Wednesday, said it was a very proud moment for her and that she was feeling very lucky.
"I am feeling very proud after meeting the Punjab Chief Minister. It was my childhood dream to join Punjab Police and it is getting fulfilled today. I am very happy. I am feeling very lucky,¿ Harmanpreet told ANI.
"Unfortunately we lost in the finals. But we will try to improve our performance in the coming days as well," she added.
The 28-year-old further said that with the help of Capt. Amarinder Singh, she wants to open many cricket academies which will provide both boys and girl the opportunity to polish their skills.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister also heaped praise on Harmanpreet and said: ¿She played a brilliant game and it's because of her India came into the finals "We are very proud that she is from Punjab and now she is going to be permanently with us in the Punjab Police "She is going to keep Punjab flag flying. She will be appointed as DSP."
On the occasion in the presence of Suresh Arora, DGP Punjab Police, Harmanpreet was also handed over the cheque of Rs. five lakhs which was earlier announced by the Punjab Chief Minister.
"This is a proud moment for us (Punjab Police). I am really grateful to the government also that they took a decision to offer her a post of DSP in Punjab Police," said Arora.
It should be noted that Harmanpreet is currently employed with the Railways.
