COVID-19 consumes a father-son pair from Mumbai’s cricket fraternity

COVID-19 has consumed a father-son pair from the cricket fraternity of Mumbai. The father-son duo, Subash, 73, and Indrajit, 40, lost their pandemic battles in a span of 12 days.

Indrajit, (expired on April 19), a middle-order batsman and medium pacer, represented Mumbai U-16 in the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons. He played his lone U-19 game in the 1999-2000 season.

Subash (expired on April 8) played inter-office cricket for the Oriental Insurance Company and club tournaments for Jolly Cricketers.

Indrajit played a few games for the Cricket Club of India under former India all-rounder and Mumbai captain Ajit Agarkar. "I am terribly sad to hear the news of Indrajit's passing and to think Covid caused the death of his father to makes it all the more heartbreaking," Agarkar told mid-day on Friday.

"Inder was a fine batsman and bowler. We both started off at K-Sport, the academy run by Kiran Ashar (the late former Mumbai wicketkeeper-batsman)," said Inderjit's friend and fellow cricketer Abhijit Patil.

Kanulkar Jr is survived by his mother, sister, wife and his seven-year-old son.
