Amol Muzumdar
Exactly a month after appointing Amol Muzumdar as the Mumbai senior team coach, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has initiated the process of picking selectors for teams including U-14, U-16, U-19, U-23 and the Ranji side.
MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee led by former national selector Jatin Paranjape and committee members, ex-India cricketers , Vinod Kambli and Nilesh Kulkarni interviewed 42 aspiring selectors at the association's Bandra-Kurla Complex ground on Thursday.
All members of the Salil Ankola-led selection committee comprising Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thakkar, Zulfiqar Parkar and Ravi Kulkarni, who picked last season's Vijay Hazare Trophy-winning Mumbai team, appeared for Thursday's interview.
Former India opener Ghulam Parkar, ex-CIC member Kiran Mokashi, ex-Mumbai U-19 coach Rajesh Pawar, ex-selectors Sunil More, Pradeep Kasliwal, Shridhar Mandale, Mayur Kadrekar and Atul Ranade are also among the candidates.

"Ranji Trophy preparation is our priority. Once the selectors are appointed, they will announce the probables. Then, within the Covid-19 protocols, [coach] Amol will start working with those probables. We want to give Amol his entire pool of players as fast as possible. By mid-July we want everything to be sorted," Paranjape told mid-day on Thursday.
Former Mumbai selector Guru Gupte also applied for the post, but his name was not among the shortlisted candidates. "I had applied for the selector's post, but they didn't call me for the interview, so I didn't attend," said Gupte.
Former Mumbai coach Vinayak Samant also appeared before the CIC but later communicated to them that he won't be able to take up the selector's job because of other commitments.
