Focus on Iyer, Kishan as Ranji Trophy begins today
The 25-year-old Kishan did not turn up for Jharkhand throughout the team's campaign in Ranji Trophy despite not being on national duty after leaving the tour of South Africa in December citing personal reasons. He instead focussed on preparing for the IPL next month for his franchise Mumbai Indians.
The last time Ishan played for India was in the T20I format against Australia in Guwahati, following that he failed to make his place in the first eleven.
The BCCI, while announcing the central contracts on Wednesday, urged the players to give due importance to domestic competitions. The decision to exclude the duo from contracts evoked mixed reactions with some former players like Kirti Azad and Irfan Pathan backing the out-of-favour duo.

The top-ranked T20I hitter, Suryakumar Yadav is in Grade B along with rising phenom Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has received his maiden BCCI central contract.
