Babar Azam: We will learn from this defeat

Pakistan captain Babar Azam preferred to look at the positives rather than the negatives after his team's four-wicket defeat to India in the T20 World Cup Super 12s match here on Sunday. "We need to get over disappointment quickly. We will remain confident. We will learn from this defeat. Some good things happened and some mistakes happened. We will deliberate and it's just the start of the tournament and we have a lot of games left. The quicker we get over it, the better it is. We have back-to-back matches and we need to focus on that," said Azam, who was out for a duck in the crucial clash.

About bringing on left-arm spinner Mohammed Nawaz for the 20th over, Azam said that he was forced to do that because he had already used up his pacers to try and break the partnership of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. "When that partnership [Kohli-Pandya] was building, we needed to get wickets and I thought of bringing my main bowlers to build pressure, but the plan did not work. But he [Nawaz] will learn from this and the next time he faces this kind of a situation, he will realise what he needs to do," added the skipper, who went on to praise India's Virat Kohli (53-ball 82 not out), who almost single-handedly took the game away from the Pakistanis. "Our bowlers were outstanding in the first 10 overs, but credit to Virat and Hardik for the manner in which they finished the game. Kohli just showed his class today. It was a close game and people enjoyed it," said Azam.

"Pakistan v India are always extra-pressure games and the more quickly you can overcome it, the better. That's why he [Kohli] is such a big player. There was pressure on him, but he overcame it and then built his innings."
