IES New English School's (Bandra) left-handed batsman Arush Patankar scored 80 (143 balls, 11x4, 1x6) to deny IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) from gaining a big first innings lead.
Arush's knock helped IES New English score 187 all out in 68 overs and concede a 10-run first innings lead to Sule Guruji on the penultimate day of the MSSA Harris Shield inter-school cricket tournament at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.
Sule Guruji, who made 197 in the first innings, reached 66 for two in 20 overs in the second essay (maximum 40 overs) at stumps. Openers Ayush Mhatre was out for 38 (36 balls, 6x4) and Aayush Patil for two. Darsh Murkute and Atharva Pisal were batting on 47 and 30 runs respectively.
Earlier, IES New English resuming at 8-2, lost the third wicket without adding to the total when Spandan Bodke was bowled for a duck by left-arm spinner Parth Ankolekar, who finished with 4-56. Offie Mhatre (4-58) helped the Dadar schoolboys snatch a small, but crucial lead.

However, No.5 batsman Arush along with captain Omkar Patankar (26) added 73 runs for the fourth wicket. Arush also shared a 36-run partnership with Sanskar Panaskar (23) for the fifth wicket to boost the Bandra school's total. The final day is poised for a tense finish and it depends on which school manages to hold their nerve.
