Dhaka: Bangladesh has appointed former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak as bowling coach for a two-year term, an official said Tuesday.

Streak, 40, will team up with former Sri Lankan cricketer Chandika Hathurusinghe, who was appointed head coach last week, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) spokesman Jalal Yunus told AFP.

"Streak has a good profile with a good record," Yunus said. "He has told us that coaching was his passion and we really appreciate that kind of desire.

"We hope to complete the coaching staff by appointing a fielding coach soon."

The former fast bowler is expected to arrive in Dhaka in the first week of June to prepare the team for three one-day internationals against World Cup champions India in the middle of the month.

"I look forward to the challenge of working with the Tigers and thank BCB for the opportunity," Streak was quoted as saying in a board statement.

"It is exciting for me to be back into the international coaching arena again. It is my passion to coach at an elite level and I hope I can bring my experience as a former player and coach to the Bangladeshi bowlers."

Streak, who retired in 2005 after a 12-year career, claimed 216 wickets in 65 Tests, and 239 wickets in 189 one-day internationals. He also had a spell coaching the Zimbabwean side.

Bangladesh are currently lying at the bottom of the International Cricket Council's 10-nation Test rankings and ninth in the one-day list.
