"The format is such that it (home advantage) really doesn't matter that much. Knowing sub-continental conditions can play a part, if you are good enough to deal with spin, it can be an added advantage," Zaheer said at a press conference where the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced an eight-year deal with MoneyGram.
Clear favourites
Zaheer, a member of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team, rated Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men as clear favourites for the World T20. "India for sure. I am sure India will come out with flying colours," he said. According to Zaheer, playing in front of home crowd is challenging, but also amazing. "Playing at home is an added advantage as well as added pressure, but it is a lot more exciting to play in front of home fans.
"As an athlete you are looking to make an impact on big tournaments and World Cup is definitely up there. You play very few World Cups.
Special event
"You don't know whether you are playing the next tournament because the time between the World Cups is quite long. That's what makes it very special. Playing in front of home crowds, like in the 2011 World Cup, was very special. That really adds to the whole atmosphere," he said.
