A new era opened in Indian cricket as Anil Kumble was elected president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) last evening. The pace duo of Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad were elected as secretary and vice-president respectively.
"We were always keen on doing this. We reckon there's a change required at KSCA, and it is our obligation to bring about that change," a proud Srinath told MiD DAY.
"We are confident to take Karnataka cricket to the next level. KSCA needs fresh ideas and a vision," he said
The Kumble-led group swept the polls, winning 23 out of 24 posts. The spin legend defeated Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, a scion of the Mysore Royal family and also incumbent president by a margin of 43 votes.u00a0 Srinath defeated former umpire AV Jayaprakash. The cricketers don't plan to stick to their seats. In an earlier interview, Srinath told MiD DAY: "The challenging thing is to be able to quit the association after putting a system
in place."
