Pune had bought the Australian Test skipper in a desperate bid to boost their line-up after walking out from the IPL-V auction last year. Clarke managed to score 98 runs in the six matches. Controversial NZ player Jesse Ryder will also be released by Pune.
The Pune team management is set to retain other foreign stars like Australia's Steven Smith, West Indies' World T20 final star Marlon Samuels and SA all-rounder Wayne Parnell. They will not retain rookie speedster Kamran Khan.
As far as the Mumbai Indians are concerned, it is learnt that four to five low-profile players have not been retained by the team think-tank. There was no official word from the Mumbai Indians management on the confusion over whether skipper Harbhajan Singh has been retained or not. There were strong rumours that the veteran spinner has not been retained.

According to IPL sources, not many teams would try to tinker around their core group of players, as they will all go into the auction pool after IPL-VI. "There are many players who have been with the teams for over three years. So, they are likely to be retained. Franchises might do away with some domestic or foreign players whose availability is in doubt," said a source. u00a0 u00a0u00a0
