Yesterday, it was the turn of Virender Sehwag to feel the heat in the nets ahead of Sunday's India vs England World Cup game.

Could the practice pitch be blamed for the rising delivery that hit the Indian opener in the ribcage? When MiD DAY approached National Cricket Academy (where the Indian team trained) Director of Operations Sandeep Patil for a reaction, he refused to comment.

The Indian cricket board was quick to send out a media release which said: "Virender Sehwag was hit on the left rib cage in the nets earlier today. He is currently under medication. However, he is expected to be fit for the match against England on Sunday."

The BCCI also requested the media to refrain from getting in touch with the players. "Members of the media are requested to refrain from constantly contacting the members of the Indian cricket team on phone/SMS for interviews/bites as players would like to concentrate on the ongoing World Cup matches," the release said.
On his way back to the hotel, Sehwag said: "Now, I am fine. I will play (against England on Sunday)."
