Melbourne: Australian captain Steve Smith has expressed his unhappiness over Virat Kohli, saying that the star Indian batsman's animated send-off during the opening T20 at Adelaide Oval could have been avoided as it was just not cricket.
Smith, the ICC's Cricketer of the Year, was talking to the Channel Nine commentary team when Kohli plucked a catch to dismiss the Australian for 21 in the first match, which Australia lost by 37 runs on Tuesday.
A visibly fired-up Kohli then went on to gesture in a fashion that apparently told Smith that he should have focused on batting instead of talking.
Reflecting on Kohli's sledge, Smith said that it was fine to sledge a bit when a player is on the field but added that it was not necessary when someone gets out, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Australia will take on India in the second T20 at the MCG on Friday before the third match at the SCG on Sunday.
